Note: Although there are scores of entries for "registro" in the Glossaries, none of the translations, as far as I could see, fit the present context.
"Registry" seems definitely no to work here: I have never heard of "conducting a registry"--what would it mean? Instead "we reviewed the data" would seem to capture the intended meaning.
Any informed opinions on this issue will be appreciated. Thank you.

The word here is, no doubt, "registry". A registry is a specific type of propsective data collection, and replacing the word "registry" by any other term would lead to confusion. We're now participating in a new, government-run registry of implantable defibrillators.

: Absolutely, the writer equated 'hacer un registro' with 'registrar' which is really broader than the English 'record', and includes concepts like "search through". i.e "registramos la casa, pero no encontramos las drogas"

Thank you for responding. I certainly understand what a registry is. I just find the use of the term to describe the *act* of compiling data rather strange. One can "compile" a registry. But can one "perform" or "conduct" a registry? I found a total of 4 Yahoo hits for "conduct a registry".
In accordance with your answer, and at the same time respecting the limits on how the word can be properly used, maybe the solution is just to change "conduct a registry" to "compile a registry" in each case, rather than to replace the word with "collecting data", as I was originally inclined to do.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
