transsexual culture
This term is used by a number of subcultures to mean "to live as (something) and be perceived and accepted as (it)".
For example, a male-to-female transsexual person who is living her life full-time as female is said to "pass" or "pass as female" when she looks like any other woman, and she blends well into non-transsexual society. She is perceived and accepted as female by the general public, and she does not "look" male or transsexual. The opposite of "passing" in this context would be "to be visibly gender-variant", where the general public can more obviously see or hear that the person is transsexual or gender-variant. This is the primary context I am interested in.
Other examples of the word:
A Deaf person who has mastered lip-reading and who has trained in pronunciation and oralism can "pass" as a hearing person.
Historically, people also spoke of black people needing to "pass" as white people to be fully accepted or have access to more opportunities or credibility.

passer pour
Même si ça semble un peu trop simple et trop proche de l'anglais, je le dirais ainsi.
