For reactions that occur on timescales as short at 1 ms (10–3 s), *stopped-flow techniques* provide a convenient method by which to measure solution phase reactions. These techniques are exceptionally popular for biochemical studies. Two reactants (A and B) are held in reservoirs connected to a syringe pump. The reaction is initiated by depressing the reactant syringes, and the reactants are mixed. The reaction is monitored by observing the change in absorbance of the reaction mixture as a function of time. The temporal resolutions of *stopped-flow techniques* are generally limited by the time it takes for the reactants to mix.
