German term

Funktionsdienst

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care testimonial
Hi:

as opposed to the "Stationsdienst"

Im Rahmen des Stationsdienstes hat sie unter Anleitung Krankengeschichten geführt. Im Rahmen des Funktionsdiestes erlernte sie die selbstständige Auswertung von Elektrokardiogrammen, .....

For Stationsdienst I want to write ward duty--- I am guessing the Funnktionsdienst is off the ward- but I have not come up with any verification. Maybe I am completely off track. Any help appreciated!

The term is more often used for nurses than for doctors, as in this case (or at least it seems to me).

duty at/in functional units

This seems to be another option here (not too sure, though).

See, for example,

http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/jhhr/PoliciesProcedures/HR201...
("All Functional Units should implement an Employee Access System and request/review Form similar to the JHHSC/JHH’s Central Employee Records Procedures.")

http://www.wbdg.org/design/hospital.php
("Hospitals are the most complex of building types. Each hospital is comprised of a wide range of services and functional units. These include diagnostic and treatment functions, such as clinical laboratories, imaging, emergency rooms, and surgery; hospitality functions, such as food service and housekeeping; and the fundamental inpatient care or bed-related function.")

"off-ward duty" might be just as appropriate, though.

agree MMUlr : this is what I found in German websites, too: ECG, laboratory, x-ray dept., endoscopy etc. are "Funktionsdienste".
