Glossary entry (derived from question below)
German term or phrase:
Minderwert
English translation:
reduction in value / diminuation of the (purchase) price
German term
Minderwert
I've found this in the glossary, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Some context:
"Ist eine Mangelrüge rechtzeitig and berechtigt, so sind wir nach unserer Wahl berechtigt, den MINDERWERT zu vergüten, vom Vertrag zurückzutreten oder Ersatzweise zu liefern."
...to reimburse the the reduced value, perhaps?
Any advice/suggestions are much appreciated!

: Good explanation. If the product is defect, the buyer (who has already paid) can demand a refund of the amount paid exceeding the actual value of the (defect) product - also known as "diminution of the (purchase) price" (cf. "Minderung" bei Romain). :-)

I think it means that they are entitled to credit/refund only the value of the goods in their damaged/repaired state - although WHY, I don't know.
