Rugged is more general and it refers to the rough nature of mountain features.

Instead, I suggest 'jagged' to emphasize the meaning of Kluft from which zerklüftet is derived which in a geological context refers to lots of peaks and deep valleys.

The whole sentence could read 'Its jagged mountain range is breath-taking'.
