how do you call the permit (or permission?!) you ask to your boss at work, when you nedd to take a few hours off for personal reasons?!

Chiedere un permesso= ask for leave, time off

Permesso=ask for "time off" for a few hours

If you're talking about longer time off work, the term is "leave of absence".
