German term

Sperrraum

German to English Tech/Engineering Nuclear Eng/Sci CASTOR
The text is (still) about casks for the storage and transport of radioactive material (CASTOR). Here they are describing the sealing system and the special closure which consists of two lids. The Sperrraum seems to be the "cavity" between the lids.

The text is aimed at a specialist audience.

That document includes "shield cavity" (as well as other cavities), but I'm not entirely sure that it's the same animal. Good luck and have fun ;-)

You *might* find some useful terminology at www.iaea.org (I'm sure you'll already have looked there but others using the glossary later might not have done).

e.g.: http://www-pub.iaea.org/MTCD/publications/PDF/te_1192_prn.pd...

And what has that got to do with me? Nice weekend too.
Robert Sleigh Jul 8, 2005:
The agency told me that they were only charging the customer Euro 1.10 per line - if true (agreed, a big IF) it doesn't do much to boost my limited faith in the safety of nuclear energy. Have a nice weekend.

Good for you.

Looks very much like a test translation I was sent this morning (turned it down, they weren't paying very much). What do you say??

I don't know if this link is any help - it's a patent for a system that sounds a bit like what you describe, and just talks about the "gap" between the lids...
