German term

Höschen

German to English Marketing Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
in this context:
"Strumpfhosen mit eingearbeiteten Höschen"
Can I say "Tights with incorporated control tops" ??
I think it sounds a little unclear / strange

@hilary...i hope not in it! it appears to be a topic of great interest, take a look im my vorderhschen (question) too if you feel up to it
Hilary Davies Shelby Jun 20, 2005:
good grief, i go out to lunch and all hell breaks loose in the Hoeschen (question!). I can't leave you people alone for a minute! ;-)
Lori Dendy-Molz Jun 20, 2005:
*blush* Geez, Stephen. I'm *middle-aged*. But thanks, I'll take the nice compliment.
Non-ProZ.com Jun 20, 2005:
@idwerk: i am not all that surprised with such a very attractive young wife...
Lori Dendy-Molz Jun 20, 2005:
Hi Stephen. Actually, my husband is German and I'm a US native. But he knows all about ladies undergarments!;)
Non-ProZ.com Jun 20, 2005:
@idwerk: but your husband is...and he knows!
Hilary Davies Shelby Jun 20, 2005:
sorry, i should have checked that before telling you all about it ;-)
Non-ProZ.com Jun 20, 2005:
@hilary: i am a londoner wo lives in germany, of course i know "marks and sparks"!
Non-ProZ.com Jun 20, 2005:
@hilary: i agree wholeheartedly an am now relying on you women out there! i also agree with your control-top tights solution from yesterday, just want to wait with grading till the job's ready (also as a reference)
Hilary Davies Shelby Jun 20, 2005:
Now all we need to do is find out what these are actually called!
Hilary Davies Shelby Jun 20, 2005:
I think this is something different from the control top tights - at least it looks that way. I think these are tights with built-in underwear so that you don't have to wear underwear as well (spoils the line, ya know!) - not necessarily "figure-defining"
Non-ProZ.com Jun 20, 2005:
please refer to the "hschenteil" thread here from yesterday!!

Not a UK-English speaker, but maybe this is general enough to \"cover it\" (haha).

agree Hilary Davies Shelby : i think this sounds good too - definitely OK for UK ;-)

Thanks. Got burned on the "trousers vs. pants" issue in the past, so I try to be careful. ; )

panties

I think panties would be a more common term.

Thanks, Ingo.
neutral hirselina : It's more than just panties

Sure, they are tights with built-in panties.
neutral Hilary Davies Shelby : not in the UK - if this is the same document, it's UK English - edit - re knickers - perhaps, see complicated question from yesterday! ;-)

Wouldn't knickers be too colloquial a term?

Knicker tights

So far I've only found one product that calls them this, and that is here at M&S (where probably 90% of women in the UK buy their underwear). One idea would be to put something like "Knicker tights - designed to be worn without underwear" (M&S's description).

Hmm - apparently \"built-in knickers\" are not that uncommon in very short skirts - not sure if that\'s the hosiery term or not!

including the regular brief panty

Regular panties provide soft, natural, non-compressed comfort around the tummy and hips.
