English term

withdrew from

English Art/Literary Linguistics
2004: it accomplished the yearly output of 70, 000 tons with the output value of over RMB 400,000,000 yuan, consequently becoming an iron oxide pigment manufacturer that ranked fourth in the world and first in Asia in its trade, and at the end of that year he withdrew from Huang and established Zhejiang Joint Pigment Co., Ltd with his management personnel.

question: Is the "withdrew from" used correctly?

TIA!!!

Nothing wrong with "withdrew."
Non-ProZ.com Jun 8, 2005:
So "withdrew from" is not correct? Thanks!
Non-ProZ.com Jun 8, 2005:
We are talking about the person with some of his followers withdrew or pulled out of the original company.

OK, but see note; spun off from

My view is that the "he" before the "withdrew" should be "it", referring to the company, so "spun off from" would be a better option I feel. Similarly, "his management personnel" would probably be "its management personnel".

agree Can Altinbay : Good point. If it really *is* "he", the sentence needs to be restructured. It wouldn't hurt to use shorter sentences in any case.

have difficulty in following the "it" and "he" in your text. Are we talking about a person or a firm or both. The text as it is is confusing

agree Kim Metzger : And I see no reason why "withdrew" wouldn't be correct. Pulled out of is another way to put it.

left/resigned from

"At the end of that year he *left* Huang and established Zhejiang Joint Pigment Co., Ltd with his management personnel"

Assuming Huang is the name of a company, the simplest option is "he left Huang" - if you want to be a bit more formal, use "resigned from Huang".

Peer comment(s):

agree Can Altinbay : This is what I'd use.
