: NOT gives "turnaround" and "revision stop". KF Petroleumsordliste also gives "revision stop". Clearly not N-E translationese - also in http://www.otcnet.org/2004/spotlight/ Translation of working env regs for petr. industry uses "overhaul shutdown"

have never heard 'revision stop' in use - sounds Tasta English. 'overhaul shutdown' implies shutdown for repairs, whereas 'turnaround' covers repairs, maintenance and upgrading work while the platform/facility (or part of it) is intentionally shutdown.

This translation is given in KF's Petroleumsordliste and in the Norsk Termbank database, which is an excellent refence source for oil industry terms. At first glance, this looks like translationese. However, a great deal of Norwegian oil industry jargon is based on English. Use of the 'false friend' "revisjon" in the Norwegian term suggests that the term is in fact a translation borrowing from English, and this is borne out by the fact that the term "revision stop" is used in the industry outside the Norwegian sector (see http://www.otcnet.org/2004/spotlight/, which is an advertisement for an offshore technology conference in Texas in 2004).
The term "turnaround", given by Francis, may well be in more common use. It is also given by the NOT database as a translation of "revisjonsstans".
In a translation of the Regulations relating to systematic follow-up of the working environment in the petroleum activities, "revisjonsstans" has been translated as "overhaul shutdown".
