This is from a discharge summary of a patient hospitalized for a number of lung problems.
The text says "... rumori discontinui bibasali, gemiti [rhonchi] inspiratory a volume corrente [tidal volume], rumori continui *sotto tosse* ed in espirio forzato; ..."
This has been asked before (12 years ago) -- https://www.proz.com/kudoz/italian_to_english/medical_genera... -- and answered by a French-speaking colleague who suggested sotto tosse = sous-toux = absence of cough.
Is this the correct translation of this little expression ... if not, how should I translate it?

As I interpret the sentence, the meaning is that the physician asks the patient to cough during auscultation. The sign has a different meaning if the respiratory noise disappears or persist after the cough or coughing at the end of the espiration (sotto tosse).
