vero che distingue Expat da Gastarbeiter, ma non sono certo i primi a mandare avanti il paese

mah si parla del paese più ricco del mondo e una guida turistica, per quanto brava, lo porta avanti o lo fa funzionare? Gli expat hanno un ruolo diverso e sono trattati diversamente rispetto agli immigrati (v. reference), ma cercherei una soluzione più "soft", indipendentemente dal testo sorgente

In questa Pasqua, gli expat si ritrovano sulle spiagge di un paio di hotel a cinque stelle: sono manager, o piloti ex Alitalia passati a Qatar Airways, o ingegneri delle imprese di costruzioni, settore che qui non conosce crisi perchè tutto è praticamente un cantiere. Gli expat hanno famiglie, mogli, mariti, molti bambini e i lussuosi hotel nei quali convergono nei giorni di festa organizzano un accurato servizio di accoglienza per le decine di piccoli ospiti.

far funzionare o fare in modo che il paese funzioni , possa andare avanti, mi sembra una traduzione meno letterale ma forse più azzeccata.
