retenir (in this context)
This is from a patient report of a man who has had an aortic valve replacement:
Le patient bénéficie d'un remplacement valvulaire aortique par voie fémorale gauche (pas d'indication retenue à un remplacement chirurgical).
I sense this is obvious but I just don't get the bit in brackets...
Thanks!

Michael Barnett
: In English I would just say "not indicated" or "no indication for".

Thank you, Michael. I appreciate it. You wouldn't translate "retenue" here in English (it means something like "accepted" in English).

...does not mean...
i imagine the author is trying to differentiate between "remplacement valvulaire" and "remplacement chirurgical"
Peer comment(s):

Michael Barnett
: No, he is differentiating between per cutaneous aortic valve replacement and valve replacement by cutting open the poor bastard's chest.

residual
No residual indication of a surgical intervention.
Example sentence:
The patients' aortic valve was replaced by a femoral approach, rather than an open surgical procedure.
