This seems to be a method for propagating data - could this be "viral mode" in english?

Overview
Viral marketing refers to any marketing techniques that encourage users to pass on a message or link to other users, thereby creating a potentially exponential growth in the message’s visibility and effect.
Another term in common use for this concept is 'crowd-sourcing':

so-called "viral" mode
It appears to be quite a common term in marketing both in French and English. The idea that it is by word of mouth that news of a product is disseminated over the internet.
In this case it seems to mean that each tiny bit of information will be added to the databases which can then be relayed out again to all users.

It's true that most people tend to think of viruses as being bad,but here it is evidently being used in a positive sense.
