Blind count is a process utilized with ADM
when refilling a controlled substance into the drug’s individual
pocket. The ADM requests the person replenishing the
controlled substance to the ADM to count the quantity in the
machine before adding the refill. The count in the pocket is
not presented to the person replenishing the CS. If the count
entered by the person replenishing the ADM is correct, the
ADM will allow the refill of the controlled substance.

Inna definicja
Blind count is an inventory counting methodology wherein the number of units in the inventory is counted manually. In other words, no automated inventory systems would be utilized to count the inventory units. The people doing the counting would not have access to the automated systems and they would also not be aware of the numbers and other statistics relating to the inventory. This would ensure that their counting is unbiased and it will also help determine the accuracy and efficacy of the automated systems. If the manual count and the automated inventory system count are different for the same inventory section or department, then it means that either the automated system is at fault or may be the human counters have made some counting errors.

In some embodiments, when a dynamic blind count setting is provided for a medication at a medication dispensing apparatus, a blind count may be required at intervals of medication dispensing events such that a blind count is not required each time the medication is dispensed from the medication dispensing apparatus. The intervals may be random or scheduled.
