: if you look at real life uses of "side ported vessel" or even just "side ported" no mention of any kind of vessel=ship whatsoever! This contraption might be on a ship but "ported" in search results doesn't show any signs of meaning the "port side" ...

from what a cursory Google search would suggest the "vessel" in "Side-ported vessel" IS NOT at all "un bâteau" and is not even attached to the "port" side of a vessel! Now, it's not set in stone, but with the info you have made available, no ways of knowing ...
What would help is the ST as it is in EN, with what's before and after "Side-ported vessel" and possibly a bit more than just a short list!
