Ami to a male, amie to a female, "mon" in both cases since it comes before a vowel.

je t'aime chère amie / cher ami / mon amie / mon ami

amie = feminine
ami = masculine
chère = feminine
cher = masculine

the literal translation of "my friend"
is "mon ami" or "mon amie" but I think "cher ami" or "chère amie" sounds more natural.

if you do not want to sound old fashioned or if you want it to be clear enough that you are talking about friendship love, I think you should use this phrase
