1) It is the missing comma before the word "passes", which ends the dependent clause "wherein...".
The meaning of the verb "passes" in this context is "go through".
2) In addition, the word "said" is not used as a verb in this sentence. It is an adjective meaning " mentioned before" for instance: said optical axis = optical axis mentioned before ( in the document)
