The line comes from a short poem by Abu al-'Ala' al-Ma'arri (d. 1057 CE):
في اللاذقية ضجة ما بين أحمد والــــمسيحُ
هذا بناقوس يدق وذا بمئذنة يــــــــــــصيحُ
كلٌ يعظِّم دنيه يا ليت شعري ما الصحيحُ ؟
