The popularity of Apple Inc.'s latest two new iPhone models is expected to give a boost to the production value of Taiwan's printed circuit board (PCB) sector in 2014, according to the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK).
IEK said that on the back of the launch of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus by Apple in September, output of the local PCB industry for the third quarter rose 8.6 percent from a quarter earlier to US$4.77 billion, the highest level since 2011.
The research unit under the government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute said that the new iPhones are expected to help cushion the PCB business against slow season effects in the fourth quarter as components for new iPhone production are still on the rise.
