Dear members,

Those who are getting established as freelance language service providers face a significant risk of being the victims of scammer who prey on translators and interpreters.

The main line of defense against scammers is a solid risk management policy, and a new feature has been released in ProZ.com to help face this threat: the Translator scam alert center is an area that will be used to provide organized, concise information regarding false job offers and other scams which may be aimed at or are affecting language professionals.

Information provided in the center is based in part on reports made by ProZ.com members through the online support system and in the Scams forum. Scams are categorized by type and the outstanding characteristics of each are outlined, to make detection easier. General information on detecting and reacting to a potential scam is also included.

A new page has been designated in the wiki for the Translator scam alert reports.

ProZ.com members have the option of subscribing by email to the Scam alert center, to receive useful news and alerts of new scams as soon as they are detected.

The translator scam alert center can be reached using the new option "Scam alert center" in the "Knowledgebase" area of menu option "Education" in the top drop-down menu.

Also, a link has been added to the scam alert center to provide users with a quick channel to report a scam to site staff for investigation/action. These requests will be answered and will also be used to generate alerts to the community.

By sharing critical information the community will help colleagues improve their defenses against these criminal activities.

Please visit this thread for the full announcement and to discuss and provide feedback on this new feature.

Regards,
Enrique
