Operació d'acabament a la qual són sotmeses les peces mecanitzades, especialment les que han estat trempades i tenen una tolerància acceptada molt baixa, per tal de corregir definitivament les irregularitats de caràcter geomètric de llurs superfícies, tant si són planes com si són cilíndriques o còniques, tant si són interiors com exteriors, acanalades, roscades, etc, per l'acció d'una mola damunt d'elles. Aquesta operació és efectuada en les màquines anomenades rectificadores.
