- (odmikalna gred), gred z odmikali, ki vzdolžno ali prečno na os gredi premikajo dročnike ali ročice. Uporabljajo jo pri krivuljnem gonilu, npr. za krmiljenje ventilov pri motorjih z notranjim zgorevanjem ali pri odmikalnem stikalu, kjer odmikalo potiska vzmeten gibljiv kontakt ob pripadajoč nepremičen kontakt.

- In generale, l'albero a camme è un albero con parti eccentriche calettate, atto a trasmettere particolari leggi di moto agli elementi che vi sono a contatto. Nei motori a scoppio è l'albero responsabile della distribuzione su cui sono montati degli eccentrici, detti "camme", forzate su un tubo in acciaio cementato o costituenti un tutt'uno forgiato, che comandano l'apertura e la chiusura delle valvole. L'albero a camme è presente solo nel motore a 4 tempi e nel motore diesel.

L'albero a camme viene azionato dall'albero motore rispetto a cui ruota (nel motore a quattro tempi) a velocità angolare dimezzata e al quale è collegato tramite catena o cinghia, più raramente con una cascata di ingranaggi, generalmente su motori sportivi o da competizione. La forma degli eccentrici è determinante ai fini delle prestazioni in quanto regola il diagramma di apertura, fasature e ampiezze, e anche ai fini della rumorosità in quanto regola l'impatto tra valvole e sedi delle stesse. Oggi si prospettano motori "camless".
Il principio è quello di trasformare un movimento rotatorio, in uno alternativo.
