Trainee Project Manager/ Translator
Job Role

The key objectives of the trainee Project Manager/Translator are as follows:

(a) To work in collaboration with the Projects Director in order to project manage key translation assignments
(b) To translate texts from Spanish into English
(c) To revise translate texts from Spanish into English
(d) To use CAT tools such as Trados, Trados Tageditor and other associated technologies. Use of Trados Tageditor is a key requirement for the translation of source files in an Adobe Indesign format for example.
(e) To create Trados Translation Memories (TM) as well as the updating of client TMs.
(f) Training will be provided in the use of specialist design softwares such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, Framemaker, etc
(g) To work in association with the commercial managers
(h) To work in association with the company Quality Assurance procedures
(i) To work in association with the company operating procedures
(j) Prepare texts for translators
(k) Conduct word counts of texts and documents
(l) Update the translator database
(m) Maintain the McFelder Project Management System

Training Programme

As a trainee translator/project manager we will concentrate on developing your project management and translation skills, knowledge and expertise. This will initially start by training in CAT technologies (Trados, translation memories and client glossaries), project management software, company databases and desk top publishing software. Full training will also be provided with respect to working in accordance with the company Quality Management system (McFelder is an EN 15038 quality accredited agency).

You will work under the supervision of the Projects Director where you will prepare the texts to be translated by the translators as well as revising texts translated by experienced translators. In this way, you will further develop and expand your expertise.
You will also be fully trained in how to project manage an assignment from start to finish as well as the co-ordination required with the commercial team in order to maximise efficiency.

The full training period we would estimate to be in the region of 2-3 years in total.
