By a translation agency May 22, 2007

When I started looking for clients I found a translation agency in the UK. The lady I was talking with told me about proz.com and I have found it to be the best and most reliable site on the net for freelancers.

In another translators page. May 22, 2007

I was a member of another translators page (they use to drink a lot of coffee). People used to complain a lot about Proz and this generated a voyeurist feeling in me to see why Proz was every day in that peopel's mouth. After some months of daily comparisons between the two sites, I think this is more professional in any sense.

Invitation May 22, 2007

Back in the beginning (about 1999) Proz.com surfed the Net for translators registered on other sites and invited them to join.

I was one of those.

By Surfing the Internet May 22, 2007

In my first googling, I found the site based in Europe. My second googling led me to that based in North America. I found this site in my third effort.

Mere chance May 22, 2007

I was doing a lot of translation for local companies and the idea of using the Net was vaguely taking shape. And here comes this banner advertising some agency's site. I was very enthusiastic to fill in their on-line form. Down the list I see "Your Proz profile number". ??????
I felt there was something I was absolutely ignorant about, something every rookie knows.
So some research enlightened me and opened a whole new dimension.

Friend of a friend May 22, 2007

A friend of mine was hosting a barbecue. During the event, I talked to a guy about my activity as a film subtitler and translator, and he mentioned ProZ.com and that I should check the website.

The rest is history.

Not so unusual May 22, 2007

At first, I thought it was odd that so many people answered “by surfing the Internet”, but then I thought of something that happened recently: a co-worker in the company where I work was doing a Google search for “HPLC peak purity” (scientific jargon) and he was led to my Proz profile. He thought it was funny to find someone he knew with an online profile that wasn’t “My Space” or something like that.

It made me realize that you can come across Proz on the Internet in many ways and for a variety of reasons. So, I guess the high “surfing the Internet” figure isn’t as unusual as I had previously thought.

From a fellow translator... May 22, 2007

...in an Oil & Gas Expo in Buenos Aires. We were on a queue and started talking, soon we discovered we were both translators and she (http://www.proz.com/pro/34150) told me to take a look at the site.

Thank you Cecilia!

SITE LOCALIZER
From a friend and... May 23, 2007

A friend told me of ProZ.com, before this I had gotten to know another site, maybe the keyword was much related to me being a translator and loving a drink of coffee than ProZ.com.

Afterwards, I surfed for familiar sites but stuck to ProZ.com because of Blue Board among other things.

And, it didn't take long for me to consider being a member and participated in the Community forum especially just to get BrowniZ and KudoZ (and to get translation work, of course via bid

Term searching in Google May 23, 2007

I discovered Proz.com when first trying to figure out how to go about setting up a translation business. I don't remember the exact search I did, but Google was most certainly involved and I remember quickly becoming absorbed in the different Proz features and pages. Because I had come across Proz.com so quickly, I really felt like I had been let in on a little secret.

That said, when researching terms nowadays, I am amazed at how often the Proz.com glossary or Kudoz appear on the first page of results in Google; of course not systematically, but often enough for me to presume that others must experience similar scenarios (confirmed by John's colleague). Even when the pairs are not mine, I always have a quick look to see what's been said about the term and quite often it’s helpful.

Best,
Jocelyne

surfing the web May 23, 2007

Back in 2003 when I came back from holidays in UK I decided
to start doing some literary translation while going on with my career as an IT project manager.

So I started to google for "translation" and keywords related to it because I did not have a clue where to look for.

So I found ProZ ... became a user ... started to use KudoZ .. went to a Powwow in my area ...

And decided to make a new career as a technical translator.
