No usually May 27

I don't usually eat at my desk, but last night I heated up some patatas bravas and had them while I was finishing a job, as I'd become peckish and it was distracting me.

No (a big no) May 27

I hate mess! Food crumbs all over my working space would make me mad! I do drink two or three espresso coffees and as I’m very forgetful about drinking water I always have a bottle at sight on a bookshelf away from my keyboard to avoid disasters.

No May 27

Apart from a bottle of water and a mug of coffee/tea, nothing edible or drinkable is allowed on my desk.

Yes, sure May 27

I do not leave empty plates, however. One or two empty of half-empty mugs are fine, but as soon as a plate is finished, I take it down to the kitchen. My teenage children are a different matter: I often find stacks of half-eaten week-old dishes at their desks.

Only drinks May 27

Coffee, tea, water, sometimes juice.

Right now I have some detox water, just plain filtered water with some pieces of fresh lime and mango in it, at the bottom.

No food at my desk, if I need a snack, it's a good opportunity to get up and walk a little to the kitchen, and stay in a vertical position.

I always wash my hands before using the keyboard. That's why my keyboards have a long lifespan. I have a number functional keyboards in my basement (will donate

I have a number functional keyboards in my basement (will donate them), I never replace them because they got broken, only because I need a change. I can't imagine how greasy it can get if you actually eat at your desk, unless perhaps you use cutlery, but still pieces of food can fly into the keyboard.

Eating with my eyes May 27

Sometimes I find myself 'eating with my eyes' when I'm translating restaurant menus, recipes, lists of ingredients, food labels...
When it comes to my desk, I avoid having food around, only drinks like coffee or water and these a little away from the keyboard and desktop.

Missed opportunity May 27

A better question would have been: do you eat your desk? (out of frustration, because the taste of desks is underrated, to sharpen your teeth, etcetera)

You can suggest this poll to Proz:

Do you eat your desk?
True
False
It depends
Other (please comment)

Do vegans eat wood btw?

Bamboo fibers May 28

Bamboo flour/fibers yes. I ate bamboo cookies. They are OK, interesting texture.

Actually I just checked online and it says bamboo is “giant grass”, not a tree. Always thought it was a tree.

The last two posts got me thinking. The smelly fermented fish and wood eating.

eating is less of a problem than drinking May 28

I accidentally spilled tea and coffee on my flat Apple keyboard more than once. Fortunately, the keyboard still works (it just has a few crumbs under some of the keys...).

Does 'making a meal of short translations' count? May 28

I tend to spend a lot of time on 200 to 500 word translations (especially short press releases) than I would on a 3000 word translation. I make a meal of them, so to speak, does this count as eating at the desk, or cooking at the desk, or both?
