Yes Sep 3, 2014

As I said before (another very similar quick poll) I wouldn't do it for so long (a few years part-time + over 30 years full-time), if I didn't enjoy it...

Yes Sep 3, 2014

When it is not stressful and customers are throwing heaps of money at me for my services. FYI, J>E translation is slightly less stressful than being a crash test dummy.

Actually it is _crucial_ addition: not always, but most of the time.
To be frank, not every of translation orders is perfectly amazing and interesting. But most of them still are. Some of them are just informative for me. In some cases it is real passion to translate those texts.

Given that we have to work at all, this really is a pretty pleasant way to keep the wolf from the door.

I love the language part, but what I don't like is tricky formatting and dealing with silly questions from clients. Just when I think I've done a brilliant job understanding and conveying the original text, I get asked why I didn't translate an address!

HAHAHAHA, my mobile beeped at midnight with a new email. I happened to be awake in bed at that time trying to get some sleep (with little succes) and I receive this same message as you.
The instructions were really fuzzy, there were some parts highlighted in various colors with different timelines, etc...
I get annoyed when I get something like this, but in general I really enjoy my job and wouldn't trade it for any other.

Yes, mostly. Sep 3, 2014

Funnily enough, I got the same email, as I'm sure every other SP>EN registered translator did. What a load of nonsense, and one of the reasons there are so many Proz detractors out there, although it's not Proz' responsibility to establish the rates that agencies can set.

++++++

Back on topic. I enjoy my life as a translator, especially watching my family grow up and develop, being part of their daily lives, instead of waking up one morning and observing, 'great you're 18 now, how nice'.

However, I don't always enjoy the subject material. That's usually out of my control, and if it's poorly written or on a topic that disinterests me, it's not always a 'fun' day at work.

Where's the "Yes, always" choice? Sep 3, 2014

Interesting omission. I wouldn't have chosen it because the IT side of translating stresses me out terribly. But it's strange that it isn't there.
