Thanks a lot for your help, you were all most helpful.
Finereader recognised the text and created a word document keeping the original layout, which I was more than glad to see. However, the words at the end of each line do not appear in the converted file. It seems like there's something wrong with the settings/margins which leaves such words out and that I cannot fix.

Don't allow FR to do everything automatically: set the recognition fields yourself. Use the selection marquee to do this.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Please, do you know exactly which option to use in order to change the orientation? The original file is in horizontal orientation, but it is converted into vertical orientation in the word document, that's why the ends of lines appear to be cut.

Draw a recognition area with the text recognition tool, then right click on it and go to Properties. There from "Text orientation" tab (dropdown menu) choose the properties for the concrete recognition area.
