Source text - Spanish The results of this analysis clearly demonstrate the link between the struggle for rights on the one hand, and the given political context on the other – in this case, that of liberal/neoliberal multiculturalism. Political frameworks place discursive limits on what is deemed acceptable with regard to the form of demands directed toward the government, as well as their form of representation. Those actors who refuse to conform to those limits are excluded. It is interesting that the rights in dispute here are the same, yet they are approached in a different way (acceptably vs. non-acceptably) vis-à-vis the order of discourse of the government. Perhaps this possibility is not explicit in Hale’s theory, but it is important to consider it.
By the same token, it is important to note that the order of discourse is not solely constructed by a government, but also by grassroots organizations. Indeed, in response to a hegemonic discourse, actors such as OFRANEH may construct contra-hegemonic discourses which not only exclude the hegemonic actor, but other actors as well. This is seen, for instance, in the "afroderecha" discourse used against ODECO. It is also evident that there exist crucial power asymmetries seeing as one actor is forced to renounce a space of dialogue with the government in order to be able to demand structural changes, or vice versa. Nevertheless, civil society actors do not remain passive in this process and can even use elements of the hegemonic discourse, such as essentialized ethnicity, in their struggles. This point is vital in the conceptualization of liberal/neoliberal multiculturalism.
German to English: Sample of a Master's thesis on language acquisition General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Psychology
Source text - German As far as metacognitive capabilities are concerned, procedural metacognition in the language of origin increases the probability of becoming bilingual, while declarative metacognition exhibits no significance. Metacognitive knowledge has no influence on the chances of becoming bilingual, which can presumably be explained by the fact that acquisition tends to take place within the family. In other words, learning takes place in informal situations where the use of formal learning strategies is less useful. On the other hand, procedural metacognition relating to achievement in L1 is very relevant. Here, the underestimation of language competency is advantageous. This probably increases the motivation to learn a language better as well as the efficiency of learning by allowing the person to better monitor and control their learning process. The development of procedural metacognition could perhaps be promoted by means of classes in L1 combined with feedback on one’s own level of competency. Quite possibly, procedural metacognition can be improved through one’s own experience in contact with other individuals of the same origin or by visiting the country of origin as linguistic capabilities are revised in these situations.

Experience
Years of experience: 16. Registered at ProZ.com: Sep 2008.
My name is Clay Johnson. I come from Phoenix, Arizona in the United States, but I’ve been based in Berlin since 2011. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in German and History, as well as a minor in Psychology, and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Latin American Studies. English is my native language and I have years of experience translating from German and Spanish into English as well as editing academic texts. Since 2008 I have been teaching English as a foreign language to adults and children in Poland, Honduras and Germany. It was during my time in Honduras as well as my MA program in Germany that I mastered the Spanish language. This program also gave me the opportunity to learn Brazilian Portuguese as part of my course work. I am particularly interested in editing and translating in the following areas: sociology, political science, history, psychology, pedagogy and education.
