Source text - English Modern languages do not exist in themselves but by and for the groups that use them in daily communication. A dead language is one that has lost its speakers. The disappearance of languages is not always natural and is, above all, generally undesirable. The reasons for a language’s disappearance often have nothing to do with the wishes of its speakers. We may then hypothesise that the preservation of linguistic diversity – and therefore of particular languages, especially those that are endangered – as part of the heritage of humanity is one of the common responsibilities of the community of nations. In other words, the survival of a little spoken or minority language is not the responsibility of the community that speaks it alone (although the will of that community to preserve its language is a sine qua non), but of society as a whole.

“My business began in 1892,” José Rivero, 90 years old, says. Rivero is the great grandson of Mosaicos Rivero’s founder. “My father ran the company until 1934 and I took over in 1941.” Since then, the manufacturing refractory has operated and consistently grown over the course of many decades.
Throughout their childhood, José Rivero and Lorenzo H. Zambrano Hellión, father to CEMEX’s current CEO, maintained a close friendship, eventually attending the same university in St. Louis, Missouri. Later, as a young adult, Rivero left his family in Mexico City and moved to Monterrey where his independent and innovative spirit led him to success in the nation’s strongest industrial center.
“We were the first to buy CEMEX cement when they began operations,” remembers Rivero. His manufacturing business participated in many important city works including the construction of Nuevo Leon’s Government Palace, Monterrey’s Municipal Palace, Monterrey Tech University, Regiomontana University, and innumerable local residences.
One of the many industry changes Rivero has observed in his lifetime includes the evolution in construction methods employed by companies such as his own. He also recalls the growth of his own business coinciding with that of CEMEX. Now that Rivero has retired, his children run Mosaicos Rivero.

2006 is the year of High Definition!
The advent of Blu-ray technology has led to the introduction of high capacity storage discs to meet the demand caused by the rapid growth of high definition television (HDTV).
The blu-ray discs get their name from blue laser technology. The shorter wavelength of the laser is the reason that it is blue in colour. The blue laser has a wavelength of 405nm compared with the wavelength of 650nm for DVD which utilises red laser technology. The benefit of having a blue laser with a shorter wavelength means it is possible to write smaller data pits and therefore vastly increase the amount of data on the disc.
2006 is set to see the introduction of Blu-ray and HD DVD discs. Both offer 3 to 5 times the storage capacity of a standard recordable DVD disc, enabling the recording, rewriting and playback of high definition video (HD). Blu-ray discs have a capacity of 25GB, capable of recording more than 2 hours of high definition programming.

What is Blu-ray?
Blue Laser
Blu-ray discs (BD) get their name from a combination of the words blue and optical ray. The format was developed by the Blu-ray Discs Association (BDA), which is made up of a group of leading consumer electronics and PC companies, including our parent company, Mitsubishi Kaguku Media. This means that Verbatim has access to the latest Blu-ray technology first.
The Blu-ray disc has higher storage capacities which is enabled by a blue laser with a shorter wavelength than the standard red laser used in CD and DVD technology. CD and DVD both use an infrared laser with wavelengths of only 780nm (CD) and 650nm (DVD), whilst the blu-ray disc utilises a blue laser with a wavelength of only 405nm. The benefit of having a blue laser with a shorter wavelength means it is possible to write smaller data pits and therefore vastly increases the amount of data on the disc.

Blu-ray diskovi svoje su ime dobili prema plavoj (blue) laserskoj tehnologiji. Kraća valna duljina lasera razlog je da je on plave boje. Plavi laser ima valnu duljinu od 405 nm u usporedbi s valnom duljinom od 650 nm za DVD koji koristi crvenu lasersku tehnologiju. Prednost plavog lasera s kraćom valnom duljinom je mogućnost zapisivanja manjih segmenata podataka čime se značajno povećava količina podataka na disku.
2006. godina određena je kao godina za predstavljanje Blu-ray i HD DVD diskova. Obje vrste diskova pružaju 3 do 5 puta veći kapacitet pohranjivanja od standardnog DVD diska na koji se može snimati te omogućavaju snimanje, presnimavanje i reprodukciju videa visoke razlučivosti (HD). Blu-ray diskovi imaju kapacitet od 25 GB i sposobni su snimati više od 2 sata programa visoke razlučivosti.

Odmah ispod sloja Hardcoat Scratchguard (0,002 mm) Verbatim Blu-ray diska nalazi se 0,1 mm debeo pokrovni sloj. Pokrovni sloj se mora nanijeti glatko i precizno jer i plavi laser može otkriti čak i najsitniju nedosljednost. Verbatimova roditeljska kompanija, Mitsubishi Kaguku Media, kontinuirano istražuje i razvija svoje proizvode koristeći se najnovijim tehnologijama te ima usavršeni Blu-ray disk.
Anorganski materijal za snimanje
Verbatimovi BD-R diskovi imaju novo razvijene anorganske materijale za snimanje i fazno-mijenjajući materijal za snimanje za BD-RE, koji čini snimanje visoke gustoće mogućim s plavim laserom. Jednoslojni diskovi i dvoslojni diskovi imaju izuzetno dugi vijek arhiviranja i vrhunske performanse reprodukcije.
Izdržljivost
Slojevi za snimanje Blu-ray diskova sastoje se od jednog metal-nitrat sloja. Plavi laser grije sloj za snimanje da bi formirao cjelinu, koja potom formira snimanje. Blu-ray disk standardno se isporučuje sa zaštitnim slojem od ogrebotina.
Verbatimovi Blu-ray diskovi sa slojem Scratch Guard podnose mrlje od otisaka prstiju i manje su osjetljivi na ultraljubičasto svjetlo (sunčevo svjetlo) te odbijaju prljavštinu i prašinu. Dodatno, naši Blu-ray diskovi uspješno su prošli takozvani test „s čeličnom vunom“ – taj test se provodi trljanjem čelične vune po Verbatimovom Blu-ray disku simulirajući moguću svakodnevnu uporabu.
Struktura diska
Strukturni dizajn Blu-ray diska bitno se razlikuje od strukture CD-a ili DVD-a. Supstratni sloj CD-a debeo je 1,2 mm, dok je taj sloj DVD-a debeo 0,6 mm. Blu-ray obložen je pokrovnim slojem od samo 0,1 mm debljine jer se tako može postići optimalna udaljenost između utora na disku i optičkih sustava pogona.
Plavi laser i Blu-ray disk omogućuju pohranjivanje velikih količina podataka. DVD ima dubinu utora od 0,74 ηm u usporedbi s Blu-ray diskom koji ima dubinu utora od 0,32 ηm. Plavi laser približno je jedna petina veličine crvene laserske zrake DVD-a pa stoga plavi laser može postići 500% više mjesta za pohranu podataka.

Hollywood koristi 70 mm film još od 1950-ih kako bi postigao širinu slike za filmsko platno, njezinu oštrinu i što je najvažnije, zvuk visoke kvalitete. To je značilo da je tijekom više od 50 godina Hollywood producirao impresivne slike za gledanje u kinu i manje kvalitetne reprodukcije za gledanje kod kuće. Razlog niže kvalitete bili su naši televizijski sustavi koji su imali nižu razlučivost od filmova.
Danas se može postići ovaj sjajni realizam jer su tehnologije koje koristimo u svijetu filma i u svijetu videa gotovo identične. Već sada neki TV kanali diljem svijeta snimaju i reproduciraju u visokoj razlučivosti. Tradicionalni televizori nisu sposobni pokazati prednosti emitiranja u visokoj razlučivosti, ali će se to promijeniti s novom generacijom televizora na tržištu koji se nazivaju televizori visoke razlučivosti (HDTV).
Zbog čega zahtjev za “sljedećom generacijom” optičkih medija?
S očekivanim rastom HDTV-a brzo raste sposobnost snimanja HD programa s televizije. Danas snimanje 2 sata standardne razlučivosti na visokoj kvaliteti zahtijeva cijeli DVD disk od 4,7 GB. Sadržaj visoke razlučivosti – unutar njegove povećane razlučivosti i digitalnih zvučnih staza zahtijeva još veći kapacitet pohranjivanja.
Trenutno Hollywood ponovno snima velik broj filmova u HD-u za prikazivanje. S time na umu “sljedeća generacija” optičkih medija je potrebna da bi se postigla impresivna reprodukcija.
