Source text - English Some studies have been conducted on the relationship between decision-making and organizational performance. For instance, Andersen (2004) found that decentralized decision structure and (strategic) planning activities are associated with higher organizational performance in dynamic environments. Likewise, distributed decision authority, managerial decision-making and strategic planning processes are all positively correlated with economic performance (Andersen, 2004). Also, Scott-Ladd and Marshall (2004) argue that managerial decision-making has great influence on the direction of the organization in all spheres, and if not well taken can be costly to the firm. Empirically, their study revealed that managerial decision-making impact positively on the performance of organizations. Similarly, Ojokuku and Sajuyigb (2014) emphasize the significance of managerial decision on organizational performance and, propose that increasing employee participation in decision-making will impact positively on their growth and potential for survival. This suggests that there is a positive relationship between decision-making and organizational performance. That is to say, good decision-making in organizations will result in increased performance and vice versa.

Dear Colleagues, Welcome to Module 1.
In this module, I will provide a general overview of crimes against wildlife and issues related to it. In subsequent modules, you will learn more in-depth about these issues through case studies, therefore, the goal of Module 1 is to get you started and get you thinking about the topic. At the end of this module, you will be able to answer the following questions:
1. What is wildlife crime and why is it important to learn about this crime? (Lesson 1)
2. What animals are at risk and what are they used for? (Lesson 2)
3. How are wildlife perpetrators classified? What drives wildlife crime? (Lesson 3)
4. What are the data sources used to understand the global illegal wildlife trade trends? What are the major global illegal wildlife trafficking flows like? (Lesson 4)
5. How is wildlife trafficking linked to other crimes? (Lesson 5)
6. What are the major international frameworks designed to combat wildlife trafficking? What are some regional-level efforts? (Lesson 6)
Each of these lessons will begin with a brief lecture providing you with the background and key issues related to the topic covered. I will also provide you with additional reading materials that are designed to further your knowledge about the topic. After each lecture, I will give you discussion questions where you will have the opportunity to express your ideas and thoughts, as well as provide your feedback on the topic. These questions will also give you the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge and think critically about the topics you have learned through the lectures and additional reading materials. Each lesson will conclude with a brief 10-question quiz to help me assess how well you have mastered the topics. At the end of Module 1, you will be given one part of a final written assignment that will be scaffolded through all five modules. It is best that you start working on that assignment right away, so that the final written project does not become overwhelming for you at the end of the course. So, let’s get started!
