Glossary entry (derived from question below)
Spanish term or phrase:
Viguetas de celosía
English translation:
Welded steel lattice beams
Spanish term
Viguetas de celosía
In the entire text this only appears in one paragraph, twice, the normal term used is viga de celosía, which I have translated as lattice beam. I can not seam to find a translation of vigueta decelosía although I know the difference. Could it be lattice joists?
Context " Las restricciones impuestas al uso de las vigas de celosía en los sistemas resistentes a sismos no están dirigidas a las viguetas de celosía y vigas de celosía que solo soportan cargas verticales, como por ejemplo, las vigas simplemente apoyadas usadas como soportes de los sistemas de piso. Las viguetas de celosía y las vigas de celosía son consideradas inefectivas como miembros a flexión en los sistemas resistentes a cargas laterales [Itani y Goel,1995; Camacho y Galambos, 1993]."
Thanks for the help :)

Hi Robert,
The difference may be due to the size of the beams, the "viguetas" are smaller dimensions pre-welded pieces that are typically used to support lighter load systems.

I'd refer to "larger" (vigas)and "smaller"(viguetas) sectioned lattice beams, if ,in fact, you believe they are referring to a difference..

Thanks, "tocayo"-I'm glad if I was able to help, the next time you pass by a building materials stotre check out the triangular sectiones lattice beams; the sections are necessarily designed for specific load bearing capacities/systems.
Saludos & thanks for your kind consideration.

(Sorry form the typo above: I meant: "triangular sectioned..." ://
Thanks Eski, but I am using lattice beam for viga de celosía I need a term for vigueta de celosía and I was thinking in lattice joists. Although it can be called lattice beams they appear together in a sentence and I cannot repeat the terms, of course. |
Tha's why I was thinking in lattice joists to differentiate in the same sentence. |
Yep, I undertand I know the difference but what I was asking if I could use lattice joists for viguetas de celosía. As I have to express lattice beams and lattice joists in the same sentence. I can't use lattice beams twice of course. |
oops getting confused there. I have to express vigas de celosía and viguetas de celosía in the same sentence in English. thanks :) |
BTW the source text is in my initial question so you can see why :) |

Hi, you can use the dictionary I chose from books,google.com as there were several terms for specific use of "lattice"(pg given), plus there are a few more technical dictionaries there you can use.
