Spanish term

goma vs caucho

Spanish to English Science Textiles / Clothing / Fashion shoe soles
I dont understand the difference between "goma " and " caucho " - I thought they both mean rubber....

"Las suelas XXX son de goma, y han sido fabricadas con una elevada proporción de caucho"

Many thanks!

Maybe, you can say rubber and elastomer (also synonyms), as a way to differentiate both terms in English.

rubber vs natural rubber/latex

In your text, goma is apparently the processed material and caucho is the raw material obtained from the rubber tree, called "natural rubber" or "natural latex".

Both mean rubber

This is both a regional thing and also a chemical thing.

Not wanting to get into chemical things, the term rubber soles is suelas de hule en México, suelas de goma--creo que en sud América y de Caucho creo que en España. Puedo estar ocupado en las otras dos regiones pero en México el significado es entendible sea cual fuere.

urethane vs rubber

What's the difference between rubber and urethane?
Rubber is the sap of trees found mostly in tropical climates. The sap is altered by mixtures of carbon (why it's black) and mineral oils and various fillers. Polyurethane is completely chemical or man-made. Because rubber is a biodegradable product it is affected by ozone and will over time dry rot and degrade, while urethane will keep going and going.

goma = natural rubber; caucho = all rubber

"Goma" is an older term going back to the raw product of the rubber tree. "Caucho" comes along later being used in relation to rubber products.
