Spanish term

integrador social

Spanish to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
This is a text about a region in Spain's initiative to network city and provincial resources to provide assistance to women who suffer from gender-based violence. It deals with sheltering these women and providing all of their care in order to help them sever the abusive relationship and become independent.

The role of the "integrador social" in this context is to help with the victim's social integration. However, I'm not sure what the best US English equivalent would be for this. These people work at the shelters and in the system that provides assistance to these women.

Context:

Chris Neill Aug 8, 2014:
@Estela Yes, it would seem the canadian system is similar to the English system where a social worker goes on to specialise in a certain field, such as community development, as you mention. The Spanish system is slightly different in that a social worker "trabajador social" deals more with paper work, referrals etc... "before "integrador social" was known as a "educador" but this has changed...there seems to be no consensus as how to translate the new "integrador social"...integration facilitator" works, in my opinion...I just prefer "officer" as it is a term already used by the Barcelona Town Hall (see my link).
Estela Quintero-Weldon Aug 8, 2014:
A social worker involved in counseling provides "clinical counseling." Another area of specialization in social work is called "community development" and in this case, a community developer provides a wider range of social integration support services to the client.

Thank you for your feedback, Chris!

@Dariusz indeed...and I'm not even confident enough to post an answer :) the post of "tecnico superior de integracion social" is a new title introduced in the LOE labour reforms. Before they were known as "educadores sociales" (which I believe still exists but in another form, but whichever, one day this will have to be addressed, as how to translate "integradores" or "tecnico superior in integracion social" (as is the full title) but we've made a good start today and I still believe your translation works

@Chris I believe that there are many ways to skin a cat, and I think that the position in question will be called differently in different institutions. My confidence level is only 3.
Chris Neill Jul 31, 2014:
@Dariusz OK, must admit to being ignorant to the American or Canadian terminology...but that said "social (re) integration facilitator" sounds like their job description is social integration. Whereas an Integrator social does much more, harm reduction, prevention, education, direct intervention and also integration. Maybe a facilitator in the US does the same, but I couldn't find a job description.
Darius Saczuk Jul 30, 2014:
My suggestion is actually based on similar positions in the USA and Canada. A social worker, obviously, performs similar duties.
Chris Neill Jul 30, 2014:
@Donovan Toughie on what to go with..a literal translation as Dariusz suggests, which may work, but may also leave native English speakers baffled as to what they actually do..or transplant the English equivalent (social worker)..although in Spain a Trabajador social and integrador are not the same.. Trabajador Social deals more with logistics, referrals and paperwork, whereas an integrador works more in the field as does a social worker (in the UK at least)
