Spanish term

chocho

Spanish to English Other Slang
Hello,
What would be a good translation for chocho in the following sentence?

¿Qué dices chocho?

The speaker is addressing a woman who has asked a stupid question. They have just met and are not familiar with each other.
Thanks

Has recibido 5 respuestas muy distintas y ninguna con alto nivel de certeza; creo que eso deja claro que no hay suficiente contexto para ofrecerte una buena respuesta.
Jaime Hyland Aug 25, 2011:
Where is the speaker from? In Spain, "chocho" can mean something like "silly old thing". As someone else said, if it were an adjective and the person addressed is a woman, it'd have to be "chocha".
Henry Hinds Aug 25, 2011:
CONTEXTO CONTEXTO incluye el origen y el destino. "Chocha" sería una mujer vieja en México, pero "chocho" tendría que ser hombre. En fin, ¿dónde nos ubicamos?
David Hollywood Aug 24, 2011:
this seems to be my evening for discussion lol but we really would need more context to be sure .... :)
anademahomar Aug 24, 2011:
In Central America, especially Nicaragua, it´s an exclamation of surprise. If it were an adjective, it would be "chocha"
philgoddard Aug 24, 2011:
You're still miscategorizing most of your questions and not giving enough context. This is not media terminology just because it appears in a TV program or whatever. It's slang.

country of origin? chocho could be viejo
Rocio Barrientos Aug 24, 2011:
chochA Creo que debiese ser chocha, chocha puede ser feliz, pero en este contexto puede ser alguien viejo y que está desvariando un poco...

Which country is this for? With this one it's important we know which country the text is for. In Spain (for example) this word can be quite rude!

cunt / "sugar" / old (girl)

You need some context to know which would be correct. All of the above are based on María Moliner's Diccionario del Uso del Español.

Geez!

At this moment I can´t think of another exclamation of surprise or disbelief that you could say to a person you just met.
