Spanish term

vasija de barro

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Song
it refers to the way the dead were buried in latinamerica a long time ago... does anyone know how they call it in English?... pease avoid answers like "mud vessel" or the like, unless you are certain that´s the way it is translated. But if you have any poethic suggestions, they are more than welcome... Thanks

"Tengo pendiente en mi destino un juramento trasnochado
Tengo al final de mi camino una vasija de barro"

yes, i know it is not standard english, but I was not looking for a standard answer. Thank you...
Carol Gullidge Mar 20, 2007:
in your case, the vowels of the last 2 syllables of each line are -a -o. Unlike English verse, which is far harder to rhyme, rhyming schemes in Spanish verse can be maintained, often on alternate lines, for a long time, sometimes for very many versos
Nicholas Ferreira Mar 20, 2007:
Fabrizio, what do you mean by "graded" answer? Just curious :> Also, just be careful in using "mourning vessel," as it is definitely not a standard term in English, and few would know its meaning. Though as it's poetry, maybe that's what you want ;o)
Fabrizio Perotti Coello (asker) Mar 20, 2007:
... and Carol, excuse my ignorance but I don't know what a -a -o assonance is
Fabrizio Perotti Coello (asker) Mar 20, 2007:
Thank you all. This was difficult to choose as they could all be used, but in the end I used the graded one.
Carol Gullidge Mar 19, 2007:
Hi Fabrizio: are you looking for rhymes? I see you have -a -o assonance here

Note from asker:

The other answers proposed are correct, but this has a poetic touch, and the added advantage of being the biblical equivalent of "vasija de barro."

Yes, an earthen vessel was the term used for biblical translations, but this one comes from Latinamerica, and it is for burying the dead. Thank you...
