For the US: MD, medical doctor / Si el médico tiene especialización en cirugía: MD and surgeon

Hola Carosisi

HTH :-))

agree n/a (X) : Yes, glad you pointed out that this is for the US. A different logic applies in the UK (qualified medical doctors are not necessarily MD).

I like to distinguish betwen "doctor", which can refer to any discipline, and "physician" which is strictly medicine.

disagree María Eugenia Wachtendorff : MD means Doctor in Medicine and is the formal abbreviation used in all English-speaking countries, particularly in university degrees

Yes, I know, but question does not say Doctor. It looks sloppy in Spanish. WYSIWYG!!

neutral Elena Sgarbo (X) : Hola María Eugenia. "Doctor in Medicine" implies having an MD & PhD, i.e, a doctorate after the degree of physician. I obtained my degree as "médica" in Argentina, and when I took my exams here in the US, I was given the Diploma of "MD", medical doctor.

So, in the context of the question, your comment should be an "agree," shouldn't it?
neutral n/a (X) : Just making the point that for a UK audience at least médico can translate as doctor, physician or medical doctor, but not MD. All best wishes.....

Sorry, Ian... I have little exp. in UK English. I should not have generalized.
