May A. Headaches with (ipsilateral) **autonomic symptoms**. J Neurol. 2003 Nov; 250(11): 1273-8. Review.

BACKGROUND: It is unclear whether the **autonomic symptoms** during cluster headache (CH) attacks are of central or peripheral origin.

° vegetatismo= autonomic symptoms and signs.

° estado vegetativo= vegetative state.

vegetative state

Mosby's English equivalent of "vegetativo" is "vegetative". The same dictionary gives five meanings of the word, one of which coincides with Elena's answer:

Personally I'd rather stick to "Vegetative state" because this expression appears as such 31,300 times in google. Here are some examples:

disagree Muriel Vasconcellos (X) : See Elena's explanation above.

disagree Samuel Sebastian Holden Bramah : It refers to the second definition you have quoted, nothing to do with a vegetative state. Be careful with basing research on google hits, you will find that many many times people make the same mistakes, which, of course, does not make them right :)
