: when "resident" is used in this context, "doctor"/"physician" is NOT used with it(sounds redundant)-it's the same as with "intern," which is used just as "intern"(not intern doctor or physician).I had already proposed "resident" and "house physician"

house physician or house surgeon
...depending on if it is a medical or surgical rotation, this is common parlance in the British NHS.
Good luck!

Intern/ resident
I've found this on the Internet:
What is the difference between an intern and a resident?
After graduating from medical school, doctors must complete a training program. This is called a "residency." During the first year of residency, a doctor is called an "intern." After the first year, interns become "residents." Both interns and residents are members of the hospital house staff. They are employed by the teaching hospital and are supervised by a hospital staff doctor

: yes, I mentioned that to franglish in my comment to the answer (about intern doing 1st year of residency). The hospital where I worked confirmed it but this applies mostly to US-not so sure if other medical systems are 100% comparable
