Spain: in angio reports I have, one doctor uses notation like this (the rest simply name the artery and say proximal, middle, or distal). "ACTPs previas: Descendente Anterior Media medio: 2.75x18 stent, balón, dispositivo extractor de trombo, éxito." Thanks.

There is a very clear medical nomenclature in English for the vessels of the heart. Should we dare to veer away from this nomenclature, we not only risk the lives of patients, but undermine the doctors/clients who are trying to understand our translations.

No se puede generaliar en cuanto a la anatomía de las arterias coronarias. El porcentaje de variaciones "normales" y por lo tanto diferentes nomenclaturas es alto.

Difusa se refiere a una estenosis (estrechamiento) que no es localizada a un sitio focal de la arteria sino generalizada o en parte de la arteria. En un angio, una estenosis focal o localizada se ve como un estrechamiento súbito del diámetro de la arteria y el contraste puede hacer una especie de embudo. En la estenosis difusa el estrechamiento es gradual, generalmente irregular en un segmento mayor de la arteria que puede ver que se vea como "arrosariada" (como un rosario).

Not sure if this clears or adds to the confusion, but two things: 1) in other instances of this doc's notation, the 4th word is "difusa": as in "Coronaria Derecha Media difusa," and 2) it may be that this 4-word grouping appears only under History with statements about previous PTCAs (I'm going to watch for this). Curious...

The MAD artery is a branch of the Left Coronary Artery. The "medio:" I think makes reference to the stent and not to the MAD artery.

mid-LAD

no idea about "medio", so I am inclined to think this is an error, particularly as I can find no Spanish references on the net to "descendente anterior media medio".

I don't know what the "medio" refers to, especially as it is in the masculine.

All references I have found = mid LAD/middle portion/section of the LAD

nothing at all regarding the middle segment of the mid-LAD, so I am dubious about the "medio" bit.

El otro caso correspondió a un paciente de 76 años y ocurrió 7 meses después de un procedimiento inicial en el que se implantó un stent de 33 mm de longitud sobre una lesión de novo en la descendente anterior proximal-media. La coronariografía mostró una lesión oclusiva inmediatamente distal al stent (que era del 50% en el estudio inicial) en la descendente anterior media que había producido trombosis que se extendía hacia el stent. Tras extracción de material trombótico con el dispositivo X-Sizer® se observó un aspecto angiográfico compatible con cierto grado de reestenosis focal en el stent. Se realizó una angioplastia y se implantó de nuevo un stent.
