This is some sort of category on an identity document from Argentina (in this case it is classified as "A"). There is no explanation on the back of the document as to what that "A" may indicate. Let me just say that I appreciate your help very much. Document to be used in US Court

Step 3. Your card issue number - This may be a 1 or 2 digit number on the front of your card, sometimes this will be shown as 3 or 03 for example.

which suggests that the newly coded original is "A" and its replacements will be "B", "C", etc.

So perhaps "issue" would be a good solution
To cite Lorena's references:
This seems to suggest "A" is what used to be called a "duplicado" and "B" a "triplicado", unless "A" is the original and "B" is the "duplicado" (first copy issued)? The title, "Nueva denominación para DNI duplicados" suggests that "A", "B" and "C" are all copies.

A”, “Ejemplar B”,' which also suggests that "Duplicado” is "A" and “Triplicado” is "B
