ITI bulletin
Around about 1994, the ITI Bulletin carried a multi-part interview with someone in London whose exact profession I can't remember but they did something similar to notaries in Spain. What stuck in my mind was that he said they kept a record of everything the attested to, and that record was called a "protocol". Very funny. I had been convinced up to then that protocol was the wrong word for "protocolo". Unfortunately, I don't have the articles or any way of retrieving them.
