Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Rosa Paredes

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Muchas gracias, Eski. Un saludo.
agree Noni Gilbert Riley : Yes - and don't fret about it being only one term instead of two! I've had clients come back to me to query, but am 100% sure!

Thank you Noni. You sound very reassuring. Regards!
agree Lisa Grayson : Yes; "y perjuicios" is Spanish legal boilerplate and does not have a literal equivalent in U.S. English.

Here are Enrique Alcaraz and the late lamented Brian Hughes on the subject of WHY there are two words in Spanish. Early in my translating career I heard this from the horse's mouth, Brian Hughes' in this case, and of course it has stuck!

"The full legal term, for which "daños" is the standard short form, is "daños y perjuicios" - literally "damages and prejudicial consequences". This habit of viewing the dual effect of torts, etc., as injury suffered plus loss incurred is carried over into the classic Spanish formula for the measure of damages, viz. "daño emergente" and "lucro cesante", i.e. the calculation of the bodily, moral or financial injury suffered together with the profit of which the victim has thereby been deprived."
