ABÓG abbreviation

Spanish to English Law/Patents Government / Politics
Can someone help me understand the English equivalent of the ABÓG abbreviation in Spanish? I see it referring to a civil registrar in an alcaldía on an official copy of a birth certificate from Venezuela. It looks like it would mean "abogada" but I'm not seeing that as a recognized abbreviation for "lawyer". I see Abg. Thanks for helping!

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): Wilsonn Perez Reyes, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Accented O- It is used twice in the document. The first time it clearly has an accent ABÓG and the second time it clearly does not. I agree with Taña Dalglish about it not having any more significance than being an inconsistency.

What you've said is true, and the usual recognized abbreviation would be "Abg." for Abogado/a. Is is really written "ABÓG" with an accent on the "Ó"? However, I would just put it down to an inconsistency. Who are we to say what is the standard today? Variations exist from country to country, and indeed region to region. Here is an example of "Abog. (but without the accent)": https://www.scribd.com/document/483556910/ACTA-DE-NACIMIENTO... and again here: https://abogadoszulia.org.ve/historia/ (Abog.)

neutral AllegroTrans : How do you know that this particular Abogado is an Attorney-at-Law? nothing specifically indicates this and I think it is unlikely

lawyer

Whilst Wilsonn's answer is "localized" (e.g. to USA), "lawyer" will work as a non-country specific term

A lawyer is a person who practices law. The role of a lawyer varies greatly across different legal jurisdictions.

Excellent, thank you!

agree Jennifer Levey : In Asker's context it clearly refers to a 'lawyer', but most likely not to an 'attorney at law' - see: https://therivaslawgroup.com/cual-es-la-diferencia-entre-law...

Thank you, and yes, we simply don't know exactly which "breed" of lawyer this is, so a neutral and encompassing term is appropriate
