Spanish term

Embargo

Spanish to English Law/Patents Finance (general) minuta sobre conciliacion de deudas
This is just a line item on a chart in which the columns read:
descripcion de transacciones
Balance Original [company X]
Balance Original [company Y]
Acuerdo de Conciliacion Entre [Company X and Y]
Diferencias con Respecto a Registro de [Company X]

The term "embargo" appears under the "descripcion de transacciones] column...Any ideas? I guess it could be attachment but it's very hard w/out more context....

Thanks thanks - this seems most plausible....
bigedsenior Mar 10, 2009:
Liens In business, creditors frequently file liens to protect themselves, which the debtor must agree to, before completing the transaction. In the USA it is done under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). The parties in the text seem to be reconciling the balances. When this can't be done, then the creditor can get a court order to attach or sieze property AND/or levy/garnish liquid assets.

Lien

'Embargo' can mean a lien in financial terms, although as you say, I can't be certain without any further context.
Peer comment(s):

agree bigedsenior : liens are pretty common in commercial transactions to protect the creditors. It is usually done through UCC (Univ. Commercial Code) filings.

Unlikely to mean anything different in a business context, sin embargo, if there was any more context we could tell for sure

We have no clear context, but it seems reasonable. If not, seizure.
