Hi everyone. I am currently tranlating a technical file from Spanish into English, involved with the renovation of a Spanish colonial church in Havana. The ARCHITECTS use the word ALETON. Wikipedia does not provide a definition of this technical concept. Unfortunately I have a slow connection and I just can not browse over the www trying to find what this is all about. Could you help me with this? i mean , the translastion of this word and the technical concept in Spanish
Kind regards,
RAUL

buttress
Los aletones son un elemento de enmascaramiento, utilizado para articular el piso inferior con otro superior de menor anchura, ocultando los machones que llevan el empuje de las nuevas fachadas.

flying buttress
It is definitely a support for a wall or higher floor. The simple form of the word "aleta" suggests a wing or something in the air. Are they fully attached to the wall from top to bottom or coming away from the wall from the top like a true "flying buttress"?
