four-month period
I don't believe there's any way to get around your original idea of "four-month period." We don't talk about "thirds" of a year - as "in the second third of the year." Quadrimester may be understood outside the US, I suppose. Check with British sources, unless your target audience is in the US

: in this context,t he first four months of the year In Business, o primeiro quadrimeste means the first quarter..business wise, otherwise it can be four month period that is not a business quarter..quartermester is wrong,

the asker does not specify business..General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters (Other)..a business quarter is 3 (three) months..o primeiro quadrimeste means the first 4 (four) months..quartermester is correct

a quarter or a quarterly basis
this must have been taken from the English, because Latin languages usually talk about trimestres of which there are four..English talks about quarters of which there are four...to say the same thing..here it looks it was taken from English

Subject:Semesters vs. Quarters
Question
I have a question regarding the different ways colleges divide up the year -- some do semesters and some do quarters. I get the basic differences; quarters are supposedly harder, and the colleges that are on them usually go back to school later after summer break. But I don\'t get something: I was told that the people on the quarter system go through three different sets of classes (3 quarters, not counting summer), while people on the semester only go through two different sets of classes (because semesters last longer). This doesn\'t make sense to me. How can people at some schools take so many classes, while others only take 2/3 that amount? What have I heard wrong? I\'ve been trying to get an answer to this question, but I haven\'t gotten a clear explanation yet. Thanks, Kristin
Answer
Kristin,
****Colleges that do the quarter system end up taking the same amount of classes as colleges with semesters.*** People at semester colleges take more classes in one semester than those in quarters take in one quarter. At the end of the school term, it pretty much equals out. I hope that answers your question and if you have any others, don\'t hesitate to ask.

Please noteL primeiro quadrimester is the First Quarter..there are four in a year
Jan-March
April=June
July-Sept
Oct-Dec..These are the four business Quarters
Now, you Could HAve a period of Four MOnths that does not co-incide these business quarters..for example,
Feb, March, April and May..a four-month period..yes,//but in your example, they are referring to the year\'s first quarter, or January through March
