reason for existing

I think this fits best in talking about a business or company rather than a person, although in the case of a person or persons, either "existing" or "being" could be used; on the other hand, using "being" for a company, etc., isn't wrong, either. Is that confusing enough for you? :D

Ex.
This company has a reason for existing.

What is my reason for being?

Does that NGO really have any reason for existing?

Some people feel they have no reason for being.

"raison d'être"

To be linguistically chic. Written in italics.

neutral Flavia Martins dos Santos : I guess this is the wrong language, this is supposed to be in English. EXCUSE ME!!!!!!!!!!! My good dictionary failed this time. You didn`t need to get offended and neither be so rude.
