The SN does not sentence anyone – in a wyrok, it can at most uphold a sentence imposed by another court.

sentence or ruling

"Sentence" would be used if someone is found guilty; meaning the punishment. "Ruling" is more a decision such as "guilty" or "not guilty." Further context is needed to clarify which you would need...
